The Get Fishing Team have introduced a journalist from The Times to fishing!

Elisabeth Perlman from The Times and The Sunday Times contacted the Angling Trust about an article she was working on about the massive increase in angling participation after lockdown.

So we had to take her out to have a go for her self!

Jimmy Willis (Marketing Manager, Angling Trust) and Elisabeth turned up to the very wet Get Hooked on Fishing, Northala Fields lakes complex where they were greeted by Sarah Collins (Chief Executive, Get Hooked on Fishing).

The day started with Sarah going over some of the amazing work that they do on a day-to-day basis. Get Hooked on Fishing is an angling charity which helps provide positive opportunities for young people and communities. Their work is designed to help young people and to give the participants more confidence and to demonstrate that there are alternative pathways and better opportunities available to them.

Then it was time for Elisabeth to have a go for herself.

We couldn’t think of a better person to introduce someone to fishing than, Angling Trust Ambassador, Keith Arthur.
Keith explained the basic equipment they were going to use for the day (a whip), how to plumb the depth and what baits they were going to use (mixed maggots).

It only took a matter of minutes for Elizabeth to catch her first-ever fish, a beautiful roach. Over the next few hours, there were several perch and roach caught and returned safely.

It couldn’t have rained any harder through this short session, but it didn’t seem to deter Elisabeth at all, and we’re fairly sure we’re going to see her on the bank again soon!
